Proposal

The following Blog is opened with the interest of explore how we react to certain images.

What is the motive for such curiosity and task? I think of art as the reflection of a moment on history. Please, understand that this does not have to be literal. However, not saying that Superman is art, superman could only be born in the middle of such values and needs of the twentieth century. Also, the abstract art, and the very sober Deco, is only possible in those periods in time, even though they are not a direct representational image from the surroundings. Art then is a product inspired or promoted by the conditions found in that specific period in time. Art is tightly related to the interests and passions of a person, of a human. Even though imagination is there and this allows us to paint about almost anything, we still compelled to use imagination to create such things that will hold some sort of sense to the world human lives in.

This being said, we are somewhat unaware of the image of the world we have; nevertheless, this “image of the world” still fills our work. However, and even if we try to guess and successfully grasp what inspired a piece of art in a certain period of time, still the question open to what is the impact it had in the people of the time? What the people at the time thought of the music of J.S. Bach, or about of the paintings of Caravaggio. At the very end, we can understand why some topics were chosen, and guess how it symbolized something. However, how the artist felt then, and how the public stood before the painting is very hard to tell, unless there is testimony.

I plan to build an archive with this blog. My whole point will be to gather information about how our time feels about the current art; and even how people feel bout older pieces. This could show us how values transform, or how certain features of our spirit remains though the years with us, and we end mesmerized when standing before a piece of art.

This would be interesting to have around, do not you think?

Dynamics

If anyone wants to participate be aware that certain rules apply:

-     The purpose is to comment how the piece of art makes you feel.
-     If you are not English speaker, try to use both, you home language and English.
-     Do not analyze the piece of art, do not describe it, and do not give opinions about it.
-     Try to be as short as you can. Nevertheless, if this goes to the point where you need to make reference to experiences to guide the reader to the understanding of a feeling, feel free to do so.
-     Be real. It is not about how accurate you are. There is no such a thing.
-     If you use slang, please, also write the place you are from, and share some context about the way you feel.

Anything that does not stick to these rules will be deleted. If there is an event in which some commentaries are worth the change on the rules, these might change and will be updated. This is an starting project and experience will tell how good this might work.

Thank you.
